Music Memories Museum

During his time off the road beginning in 2013, Michael stayed busy by pursuing another passion beyond music, it was also antiques. This led to a new idea: he opened the Main Street Antique Mall in Swainsboro. Inside the mall, he created something even more special—a music museum he named the Music Memories Museum.
Collecting autographs and authentic memorabilia had been a hobby of Michael’s since the 1980s. Some items came from artists he met personally, while others were from performers he admired growing up listening to the radio. Today, his private collection features hundreds of pieces once owned by some of the biggest names in music.
Among the highlights are a shirt once owned by Elvis Presley and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that belonged to Gregg Allman of The Allman Brothers Band.
Swainsboro is the perfect home for such a museum because of its rich musical history. Legendary artists began their journeys here. Brenda Lee—best known for “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”—gave her first paid performance in Swainsboro at just nine years old on the stage of the historic Nancy Auditorium. Hank Williams Jr. also had his first live performance on that same stage at the age of eight.
Between the 1950s and 1970s, the Nancy Auditorium hosted hundreds of major artists, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and Jerry Lee Lewis, among many others.
